Our Council and Institutional Membership is comprised of senior academics, researchers and practitioners across all design disciplines.
Professor Alex Milton
Chair
Alex is Head of the School of Design at the National College of Art and Design (NCAD).
Alex is an academic, designer and researcher. He was the Programme Director of Irish Design 2015, and co-authored the successful bid to establish the Creative Futures Academy, receiving over €10 million in government funding.
He has authored 8 books on design including Product Design (published by Laurence King, and translated into three languages), and managed National and European research projects worth in excess of €1 million. His creative work has been exhibited at numerous international venues including IMMA, MUDAC Lausanne, Designers Block Milan and 100% Design London.
A member of the National Design Forum and the EGFSN Design Skills Implementation Group, he is also a Fellow of the RSA and IDI.
Alex sees design as having the responsibility and power to build a platform for positive cultural, economic and social change.
Dr. Adam de Eyto
Vice Chair
Adam is the Head of Design at Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD) / Technological University of the Shannon.
Adam had the privilege to serve on the Executive Board of Cumulus (the International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media) as Treasurer for the Association and is an education and research representative on the National Design Forum.
He has a specific research expertise in the field of Design for Sustainability and has conducted applied design research the areas of Soft Product Design, Sustainable Product Service Systems, Circular Economy, User Centred Design in Soft Robotics, Transdisciplinary education, Humanising of Medical Devices and Behavioural Change for Sustainability.
Colin Deevy
Treasurer
Colin is director of the designCORE Research Centre at South East Technological University (SETU).
Colin is an academic, programme director, designer and an advocate of design. He has worked across a range of roles and capacities within the Irish design sector for over 30 years; and in Higher Education for over 25 years.
Graduating from NCAD in 1990 as an industrial designer, Colin’s responsibilities at SETU include lecturing, research, research-supervision, and academic leadership.
